General information, not legal advice

The pages and calculators on Law Figures explain how laws, court rules and agency programs usually work and do the math for the numbers you enter. They are general information. They aren't legal advice about your situation, and they can't take the place of a lawyer who knows your facts and your state.

No attorney-client relationship

Law Figures is not a law firm, and the editors aren't acting as your lawyers. Reading the site, running a calculator or emailing us doesn't create an attorney-client relationship, and anything you send us isn't privileged or confidential.

Not a lawyer referral service

We don't recommend particular lawyers or match you with one. If lawyers or legal services ever advertise on the site, the ad or the page will say so, and the choice of who to hire stays yours. See how we make money.

Laws differ and change

Each state has its own laws, court rules and agency figures, and they change, often every year. A page shows the date it was last updated and its sources. Check the current version of a source, or ask a lawyer, before you rely on it.

Deadlines

Most claims have strict deadlines, such as statutes of limitations and appeal periods, and missing one can end a claim for good. Don't wait on a page from this site if a deadline might apply to you. Talk to a lawyer licensed in your state.

Calculator results are estimates

A calculator applies a formula to the numbers you enter. The result depends on those numbers and on the rule we describe, and the real outcome can be different. It isn't a prediction of what your case is worth or what a court, agency or insurer will decide.
